Dear Faculty, Fellows and Members,
The College has faced an unprecedented situation in the last few weeks, requiring us to cancel our courses until September at the earliest, and trying to plan for the next academic year. We have to be realistic enough to say that things are not going to return to what we have regarded as “normal” for some time to come (if at all).
The Office team have done a great job in difficult circumstances, working remotely, and much of the work surrounding the cancellation of this Summer’s courses has been completed. They would like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding.
We hope you are enjoying the videos, reading and interactive Q & A sessions which Course Directors from some of the cancelled courses have been able to share with you. We are hoping to develop this further over the next few weeks for the benefit of all Members. This is new territory for many of us, and much has to be developed from scratch, but we can use this as an opportunity to increase the College’s capabilities for the future.
Communication, keeping in touch and supporting each other in so important to everyone’s wellbeing at the moment. Last week a list of the SCCO communication channels open to our Faculty and members was circulated, and it is heartening to see them being used and appreciated by so many of you. Yesterday the Facebook Fellows and Members group signed up its 100th member – and there is room for more!
Course Directors and Faculty are working together to ensure we are ready to welcome you all on our courses again as soon as we are able, looking at the best way to ensure everyone stays safe but can continue to meet and learn together, which is what people find so valuable about the College.
During this planning, we are mindful of the impact this situation is having on us all, including the financial pressures many of us are under. We are working with the Educational Review Team to explore new ways in which SCCO learning can remain accessible and affordable in the future, whilst still maintaining the practical elements which are so fundamental to what we do.
Please do keep in touch by reading updates on the website, via the Facebook page, email etc, where updates will be provided as Government restrictions are lifted.
Until then, keep safe and well.
On behalf of the SCCO Trustees
