COVID-19: SCCO Course Safety Protocols
What to expect on an SCCO course to ensure COVID-19 safe operation
In order to make SCCO courses as safe an environment to be in as possible for both Faculty and students, we ask everyone to follow our new safety procedures as laid out below.
These procedures incorporate the requirements of government legislation and follow osteopathic and NHS advice and guidance, which we are working hard to achieve whilst maintaining the high standard of learning and enjoyment our students have come to expect from our courses.
Prior to arrival
- Anyone attending the course as a student or Faculty, guest lecturer etc., will be asked to completed the SCCO pre-course declaration of health a week before the course and return a signed copy to the SCCO office.
- Students will receive an email detailing the working practices to be followed during the course, and details of any protocols and requirements pertinent to the particular course venue.
- We request that you bring sufficient masks of IIRS standard for your own use to wear during practicals and in public areas of the venue where required.
- As we need to ensure adequate ventilation in the course room and throughout venues, please bring suitable clothing to ensure your comfort.
During the Course
- Everyone entering the course room will have their temperature taken by a faculty member using electronic non-contact thermometer.
- 70% alcohol hand sanitizer will be provided and everyone will be asked to wash hands and/or use sanitizer frequently throughout the course.
- Lecturers will use microphones to minimise transmission risk via voice projection where required.
- Rooms will be well ventilated throughout the course.
- Rooms will be set up to allow students to sit 2 metres apart (UK) or 1.5 metres apart (Germany) during lectures.
- Unless government guidance changes students will not be required to wear masks other than during practicals, but may, of course, do so if they wish.
During Practicals
- Pathway and POD courses will work in ‘bubbles’ comprising 4 students and one tutor throughout the course. Tables will be moved to form a “V” meeting at the feet, maximising the distance between patient and practitioners faces. Tutors will sit at the feet to give direction, moving closer only when necessary.
- Students and tutors must be respectful of the wishes of those with whom they are working in regards to wearing optional PPE (gloves, aprons, etc.), distancing and participating in activities.
- Disposable aprons and gloves will be provided for those who wish to use them, in addition to extra masks.
- Students and Faculty must wear masks (IIRS standard or above) during practicals.
- Tutor supervision – touching students during practicals will be reduced to only as necessary.
- Waterproof pillow covers and sanitizing wipes will be provided to allow pillows and tables to be wiped down by the patient before swapping roles.
- Double bagged tie handle disposal points will be provided, and everyone is asked to clear away all disposable equipment they have used throughout the course and at the end of each day.
Course End
- All equipment – tables/pillows etc to be wiped down by last user, and all personal possessions and rubbish to be removed/disposed of.
