Potency of Water
with Gerald Pollack
Osteopathy is full of terms and expressions that continually refer to fluid. What do they mean? How objective are these and is there any ‘scientific’ rationale/validity to support them?
Every two years the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy hosts the ‘Rollin Becker Memorial Lecture’ and in 2017, the SCCO invited internationally renowned Dr Gerald Pollack to present this. Based on his latest publication, The Fourth Phase of Water, Beyond Solid, Liquid & Vapor, Dr Pollack spoke about how water, in certain circumstances, was seen to develop a clear, structured layer that, on quantum examination, was found to exhibit a different structure to water in its other three states. This structured layer showed memory potential, could absorb energy, be recharged with ultra-violet light, and expanded with the far infrared spectrum.
Together with his colleagues at the University of Washington, he has discovered that water is not always H2O and that, when in contact with most surfaces, it transforms into H3O, or Exclusion Zone water.
With much of our osteopathic work resonating with fluid dynamics and Sutherland’s use of such expressions as “fluid within the fluid”, “liquid light”, “the tide” and “fluctuations of fluids”; this is an exciting and significant development.
There will be a new and exciting format to the workshop following Dr. Pollack’s lectures. Mark Wilson and Colin Dove have worked together with Dr Pollack to produce an investigation into certain physiological processes vital to us in our work. Palpatory enquiries will be launched before and after input from Dr Pollack. We hope the outcome will be a richer understanding of the processes at work beneath our feeling, thinking fingers so that they might become even more knowing!
Please note that this is a departure from our usual SCCO course format; it is a workshop. Instead of our usual 1:4 ratio, you will work alongside Colin and Mark (and translators) to explore concepts and palpatory findings with each other.

Guest Speaker: Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington
Dr. Gerald Pollack is an international leader in the field of water research. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. Since then, his research interests have ranged broadly over the scientific spectrum, from cardiac dynamics and electrophysiology, to muscle contraction, cell biology, and more recently to the role of water in nature.
Currently Dr. Pollack runs the Pollack Laboratory at the University of Washington, which focuses on uncovering some of nature’s most deeply held secrets. He is also the Editor-In-Chief of the scientific journal WATER, a multidisciplinary research journal that brings together water-oriented research from diverse disciplines.
Professor Pollack has earned many distinctions, medals, and honours. He was awarded the highest faculty honour bestowed by his university, the Annual Award Lectureship at the University of Washington in 2008.
In his spare time in Seattle, he enjoys gardening, cooking, skiing, and ruminating on subjects as diverse as the origin of weather, the molecular basis of brain function, and solving the world’s crises (water, energy, health). He has also been known to build ponds, harpsichords, and tree houses.
