Rollin Becker Memorial Workshop
The practical workshop will involve an exploration of phenomenological awareness during cranial osteopathic work. Participants will be introduced to a new method of distilling embodied experience into language. We will consider the implications of this phenomenological approach for our communication with patients, for osteopathic education, and for research.
The practical workshop will involve:
- An introduction to phenomenological analysis as a way of distilling meaning from the realm of pre-verbal, embodied experience
- Exploring phenomenological awareness during osteopathic attunement and therapeutic engagement with patients
- Hands-on, practical work in trios to explore the language we use to explain cranial osteopathic palpation/listening – with the option of using poetry, drawing or music as conduits to precise and elegant definitions
- Reflection and discussion to consider the implications of the workshop for osteopathic practice, communication with patients, osteopathic education and research
To attend the workshop you should have either completed our Module 2: Osteopathy in the Cranial Field or have equivalent cranial experience.
