Diploma Access Day
Essential pre-Diploma course
This day occurs just once a year and is mandatory for those who wish to take the diploma, and must be taken prior to submission of diploma assignments.
Important guidance and workshops are provided on objective reflection in relation to improving patient care; assignment writing, practice visits, and other areas which form an integral part of the Paediatric Diploma are also covered.
Our guest speaker thoroughly covers up to date essentials of safeguarding of children, and there are opportunities to revise the appropriate procedure for a baby exam, and discuss care of infants and children with experienced tutors.
Whilst this day is essential for those who wish to undertake the diploma, it is also a useful revision and update for any osteopath who treats children.
SCCO Course Providers: All SCCO courses are run by a resident Course Director, who is an Osteopath and a member of the SCCO Faculty. Pathway courses are delivered by SCCO Faculty and may be supported by guest speakers. Short courses are usually delivered by a visiting guest lecturer. SCCO Faculty members all hold recognised osteopathic qualifications but may not be GOSC registered osteopaths.

Deborah Smith, Safeguarding Specialist
Deborah has been an osteopath since 2002, working in a variety of clinical settings. As part of a Masters in Child Health, her dissertation was to write a policy on safeguarding for osteopaths. Since then an interest in supporting osteopaths to make clinical compliance easier grew.
In 2014 she established Mint Practice producing a comprehensive folder and patient leaflets to help equip osteopaths with the information they need to easily comply with the Osteopathic Standards. She particularly enjoys teaching osteopaths on the access course to apply safeguarding learning within the context of their practice.
She believes all osteopaths should be trained in safeguarding so action will be taken where necessary to safeguard children.
