Rollin Becker Memorial Lecture: The Legacy of Charlotte Weaver: An Osteopathic Pioneer
Charlotte Weaver was one of the most extraordinary yet least recognised pioneers of osteopathy. A scientist, osteopath, board-certified neuropsychiatrist, poet and artist, she was encouraged by A.T. Still to pursue her investigations into the osteopathic approach to the head. While working alongside William Garner Sutherland, Weaver developed her own distinctive understanding of the cranium and central nervous system—ideas that have remained largely overlooked within mainstream osteopathic education.
In this year’s Rollin Becker Memorial Lecture, internationally respected osteopath Kok Weng brings Weaver’s remarkable work back into the spotlight. Rollin Becker Memorial Workshop: Applying Charlotte Weaver’s Insights to Modern Osteopathic Practice
Building on the themes introduced in the Rollin Becker Memorial Lecture, this practical workshop explores how Charlotte Weaver’s observations can inform contemporary osteopathic assessment and treatment. Although Weaver left little written description of her clinical techniques, her understanding of the cranium and central nervous system offers a unique perspective that remains highly relevant today.
Drawing on decades of clinical experience in neurological and paediatric osteopathy, Kok Weng demonstrates how Weaver’s concepts can be thoughtfully integrated into modern practice. About Kok Weng Lim
Kok Weng has taught throughout the UK and Europe, including at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, the European School of Osteopathy, Wiener Schule für Osteopathie, the Barcelona School of Osteopathy and SCCO. Alongside his extensive teaching career, he has worked within neonatal and transitional care hospital units, collaborating closely with medical and nursing teams to provide osteopathic care for some of the youngest and most vulnerable patients.
A co-author of books on paediatric osteopathy and Balanced Ligamentous Tension, Kok Weng is known for his thoughtful, clinically relevant teaching style that brings together history, philosophy and practical application.
