As osteopaths, how can we support our patients to have more resilience in a stressful world? In this course we will explore physiological mechanisms needed for healthy functioning, including:
- Nuanced balance and interactions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems
- The complexities of the limbic system and its importance in regulating autonomic function
- The pervasive influence of the adrenal glands
- An overview of the neuroendocrine immune system
- The diaphragm as a fulcrum for autonomic health
In addition, we will consider how we may increase our own engagement with and perceptual understanding of treatment, looking at:
- Exploring the layers and dynamic history of osteopathic patterns
- Respecting the tempo of treatment
- Witnessing health and stillness
Learning Outcomes:
An understanding of autonomic physiology and our ability to have a deeper quality of presence allows us to perceive suffering, support healing, and build resources and resilience in our patients.
Course Format: The course will be a two day in-person course. Additional lectures and discussion will be provided by pre-recorded lectures and/or zoom meetings with participants.
