Understand the foundations of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field
Rooted in the work of William Garner Sutherland, this course explores the key hypotheses that underpin Osteopathy in the Cranial Field.
Over more than 50 years, Sutherland developed what he described as the five phenomena – a framework for assessing and treating whole-body function.
On this course, you will not only learn these concepts, but begin to apply them with confidence in practice.
Develop skills you can use straight away
From the outset, you will learn treatment approaches that can be applied immediately in your clinical work, including:
- Balanced Membranous Tension (BMT)
- Fluid management techniques
- Working with the involuntary mechanism (IVM)
You will develop a clear understanding of how working with the IVM can support patients of all ages – from paediatrics to geriatrics – helping you achieve more consistent and effective outcomes.
A course designed around practical learning
The structure of the course supports both understanding and application:
- Small group learning (1 tutor : 4 students)
- Short, focused lectures and workshops
- Extensive hands-on practical sessions
- Daily time for reflection, discussion, and integration
This is active, supported learning – designed to help you build confidence and translate knowledge into practice.
